How much a Sicily wedding actually costs

Most articles about the cost of a wedding in Sicily are written to make you feel calm and tell you nothing. You finish reading and still have no idea what you would actually spend. This one is different, because we are going to give you real numbers, explain where every euro tends to go, and tell you the one thing about how planners get paid that almost nobody puts in writing.

We plan weddings in Sicily for a living, and the way we work is simple: we take no commission from any vendor. Not from the venue, not from the caterer, not from the florist, not from anyone. That single fact changes what we are able to tell you here, so we will come back to it at the end. First, the money.

The short answer: it depends

There is no fixed price for a wedding in Sicily, and anyone who gives you one before knowing you is selling you something. The cost depends on how many guests you invite, which venue you choose, and how far you want to take the celebration. So instead of a flat number, here is where things realistically start:

• An intimate wedding, 20 to 40 guests: from around €25,000
• A medium wedding, 50 to 80 guests: from at least €45,000
• A larger wedding, 80 guests and up: from around €50,000 for 80 guests, and it climbs with every guest you add

These are starting points, not ceilings. There is no real upper limit, because ambition does not have one: the more you want, the higher it climbs. What we can promise is that we will always tell you honestly where your wishes and your budget actually meet.

Where the money actually goes

Venue. This is the piece that swings the most. A premium estate or historic property taken on exclusive use can run from €15,000 to €65,000 depending on the property and season. A charming agriturismo or a restaurant with a view can bring the same day in for €8,000 to €20,000. The venue also quietly sets your ceiling, because a grander property tends to pull everything else up with it.

Food and drink. Sicily feeds people properly, and it shows in the quote. Expect roughly €150 to €280 per guest for a full reception dinner with antipasti, wines, service staff, and the long Sicilian sweet table at the end. On a real wedding this is often the single largest line after the venue, precisely because it scales with your guest count. Invite forty fewer people and you feel it here first.

Planning. A day-of coordinator starts from around €1,500. Partial planning from around €3,000. Full planning, where someone runs the entire thing from first idea to last transfer, starts from around €6,000 and rises with the scale and complexity of the celebration. What you are buying is not decoration. It is someone who knows which venues actually deliver, which vendors show up, and how to keep your budget honest.

Photography and video. A good photographer is €2,500 to €10,000. Adding a videographer typically costs another €2,000 to €6,000. This is the one category where couples almost never regret spending more, because it is the only thing that leaves with you.

Flowers and design. Anywhere from €3,000 for something restrained to €18,000 for a fully designed floral world across ceremony and reception. Sicily gives you a lot for free here: lemon groves, sea, old stone, light. A good designer works with that instead of importing a look that fights it.

Everything else. Music can be €1,500 for afternoon-drinks entertainment, €2,500 to €3,000 for a proper live band, and €6,000 and up when you want more elements and top professionals. Hair and makeup varies a lot but rarely comes in under €1,500 in total. Then there are guest transfers, which matter a lot in Sicily because the beautiful venues are rarely next door to the hotels, stationery, and a celebrant for a symbolic ceremony. Individually these can feel small. Together they are real, and they are where sloppy budgets quietly overflow.

The three things that actually move your budget

Guest count. This is the big one. Every guest is a seat, a meal, a drink, a slice of the sweet table, sometimes a room and a transfer. Cutting the list is the most powerful budget decision you will make, and it is entirely in your hands.

The venue. A venue that includes its own accommodation, or that lets your guests pay for their own rooms, changes the maths completely. So does choosing a property whose exclusive-use fee can be partly offset by the rooms your guests book. Two venues with the same headline price can end up thousands of euros apart once you look at what is actually included.

How many days you celebrate. A one-day wedding and a three-day celebration are different products. The second is not simply more expensive, it is a different experience, closer to a holiday your guests take together. Deciding this early tells you which budget you are really in.

Optimise, never amputate

There is a sentence we hear a lot: "let's keep the flowers basic, the venue is beautiful anyway." We understand the instinct, but we will be honest with you, because that is the whole point of working with us. For a day to feel like a wedding, and to look like one in every photograph you will keep for the rest of your life, some things are simply not optional. Flowers are one of them. You can absolutely optimise: choose what is in season, concentrate the impact where it counts, reuse the ceremony flowers at dinner. Optimising is smart, and we do it with you happily. But skipping the fundamentals, or handing them to a well-meaning friend the week before, is not saving money. It is quietly deciding your wedding will look like less than it is. DIY is never the answer. Optimise, yes. Amputate, never.

What nobody tells you: the hidden commissions

Now the part we promised, and it is the part almost nobody in this business says out loud.

It rarely appears on any invoice, and no one will mention it to you, but very often money moves quietly between vendors and planners behind the scenes. A florist, a caterer, a band or a venue gives the planner a cut, a percentage under the table, for bringing them the client. It is extremely common, common enough that many couples simply assume it is how things work. To be fair, not everyone does it: there are honest planners in Sicily who refuse to, and we are proud to be among them. But it happens far more often than you would want, and you never see it. It is not written anywhere you can read. And that is exactly the problem: when a planner has a hidden reason to send you toward one vendor rather than another, their advice stops being only about you, and you have no way of knowing.

We do not work that way. We take no commission from any vendor, from anyone, ever. Nothing under the table, nothing on the side. That means when we recommend a caterer or a photographer, it is because they are right for your day, not because there is something in it for us. It means the only loyalty we have is to your budget. And it is why we can write an article like this one, with real numbers in it, because we have no hidden markup to protect.

When you speak to any planner in Sicily, us included, ask them one direct question: do you take any commission or kickback from the vendors you book? Then watch how clearly they answer. The clarity of the answer tells you almost everything you need to know.

So, what should you budget?

If you want a figure to start from, plan for around €700 to €800 per guest at the simplest end, and €1,000 to €1,500 per guest for a full celebration, and know it climbs from there with what you want. It is a starting point, not a promise, because your wedding is not a template and we are not going to pretend it is.
